Walking, December 7th 2008

On Sundays a group of us go walking - usually up a mountain. We have been to some extraordinary places. Last Sunday we parked at the Ancient Fort in Xerokambos and started to walk. This walk was a combination of walking, climbing and clambering. The path disappeared in places. Luckily, despite having lost the forward four, Liz has an excellent nose for direction. Tzouma the dog isn't a patch on her. She (the dog) being told to "find George" will wag her tail and wait for further instruction.

At the top of the mountain is an old army barracks. Within are some amazing pictures. Paintings, cartoons and drawings, all murals. They date from World War II and some are pretty difficult to photograph. The floor is littered with dung and the rooms and hallways which contain the pictures are often too small to be able to stand back well enough to take the whole image. The two paintings are copies of Breughel's "the wedding" and "dance". If you click on the image of the painting, you will be taken to an image of the original.
