We're in!!!
June 7th, exactly a year from when building started, Rich and I spent our first night in the house. Celebration!!!!!
OK, it's not exactly finished. For example... and most importantly, loos are not connected. Hurrying to explain, we've been lent a Portapotty! We had just had enough of the apartment, 2 rooms 12m x 12m plus kitchen and bathroom with mini-balcony.
We're living with 2 stacks of floor tiles in the living room, shutters that you can't keep open, windows that don't have catches. With the aid of a pump that Rich has rigged up, emptying water from showers etc that flow into 2 tubs. What else needs doing? Wall for the stairs, tiles ditto, kitchen cupboards (there are bottom ones with no doors or shelves), bedroom wardrobes, outside of the house painting, septic tank nstalling and wall for same, plumbing for "dirty water" - showers etc so we don't have to use Rich's water pump, concrete path from main stairs to our stairs - oh never mind I won't go on - we're living in our house and are happy as Larry (whoever he is)!
June 22nd, we had satellite installed which also fixed the problem of English vs Greek PAL - I can watch Wimbledon! yay! So I'll be sitting on the balcony watching... possibly the rain come down on jolly old SW19.
June 23rd we had a water filtration system installed. This is a device designed to filter all the nasties from "town" water, making it unnecessary to drink bottled water. The cost involved means we have to drink a lot of water to pay for itself - however, if you could see me lumping 9 litres of water in a 6-pack up 63 steps will realise the necessity. Coke for our brandy and coke to be fixed next! Town water, although drinkable, is often salty and not very nice and the locals use even bottled water for cooking. There are public wells and water piped from Rhodes and even wells in houses but we gather the water is rather nasty with insects and bits in it! OK, it was the lady who sold us the filtration system who told us this - but after they'd installed ours.
